How it works

What you are buying

When you pay, your gift appears on the globe as an arc from one country to another, your name and message are shown publicly, and the receiving country's total on the Most Loved board goes up. That is the product. A payment is not a donation to any charity, government or person, and the receiving country does not receive your payment. Payments are final and non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

Our pledge

At the end of each calendar month (UTC), we give 75% of all payments received on this site during that month, after payment-processing fees, to a registered charity operating in the country at the top of the Most Loved board at that moment. The monthly gift will be no less than $20 (AUD) and no more than $25,000 (AUD) unless we announce otherwise before the month begins. This is a gift made by us from our own revenue; it is not made on your behalf and is not tax-deductible for you.

What happens when the month ends

At midnight UTC on the last day of the month, the board is frozen automatically. The country at the top of the Most Loved board wins, and the month appears on the site as "being decided". The top fan — the single sender who gave that country the most during the month, identified by the payment email verified by our payment processor — is emailed within 48 hours at the address they paid with, and has 7 days to pick a charity from the country's shortlist (or nominate one that passes our checks). We then make the gift, publish the charity, the amount, and the receipt, and the month's entry changes to "paid".

Who chooses the charity

The top fan is determined by verified payment email, not display name, so two people with the same name are never merged and a name cannot be impersonated. If the top fan cannot be reached within 7 days — including where no working email address is on file or our email bounces — does not respond, or chooses an ineligible organisation, the choice passes to us and we pick from the country's shortlist, starting from its most nominated charity. Where a country has no approved shortlist, we give to a worldwide charity that works in that country (currently UNICEF or Save the Children).

Your email and privacy

Your email address is collected by our payment processor (Stripe) to process your payment. We use it for two things only: payment administration (receipts, refunds, fraud checks) and contacting you if you become a month's top fan, which is part of the service you join by paying. We never publish it, never sell or share it, and never send marketing. Payment records are held with our processor and in our database hosted in Australia; you can ask us to delete your display name and message from public view at any time via hello@generosityglobe.com.

Shortlists and nominations

Anyone may nominate a charity, free of charge. The first nomination of an organisation is reviewed before it appears, and we only add organisations that are registered with the relevant national charity regulator and publish audited accounts. Every further nomination of a listed charity counts as a public vote, and each country's shortlist is ranked by those votes — the ordering reflects public nominations, not our preference or any payment. Nomination counts affect ordering only: they do not decide where the money goes, and the top fan remains free to choose any eligible charity in the winning country. We may decline any nomination without giving reasons, including where an organisation is primarily a political, advocacy, or fundraising-intermediary body rather than a working charity, and we may remove counts we believe were generated artificially.

Transparency

Each month we publish the total received, the amount given, the recipient charity, and the receipt or confirmation from the charity, on this site.

Names, messages and fair play

Names and messages are public and may be shown anywhere on the site and in our social posts. We remove anything abusive, hateful, or unlawful and may refund and remove payments we believe are fraudulent, made with stolen cards, or intended to manipulate the boards. Totals are calculated from settled payments only.

Changes

We may change the pledge percentage, floor, cap, or these terms for future months by updating this page before the month starts. Changes never apply to a month already in progress.
